  • 5 Tips to Minimize the Occurrence of Back Pain

Posted on January 13, 2014 by Core Products

For many of us, back pain is one of those unavoidable things. Whether it’s carrying in too many groceries at a time, a marathon round of golf, yard work, or even picking up a pencil from the floor, one wrong move can ruin a weekend. What you may not know, is there are a few easy things you can do to greatly minimize the occurrence of back pain.

    1. The first thing is simply, to stretch. Take 2 minutes each morning and stretch your back by slowly and gently, bending in each direction. Be sure to breathe while your stretching, that oxygen is good for the muscles.
    2. When lifting, bend at the knees and not at the waist. It’s especially important to avoid twisting, turning or pivoting while picking up an item. My favorite way to remember that is the saying, "lift like an elevator, not like a crane".
    3. Don’t overload yourself. A good rule of thumb is if you’re going to try and lift an object that is more than 20% of your body weight, ask someone for help lifting it.
    4. When lifting an object, keep it close to your body. It puts more and more stress on your back, the further out it is held from the body.
    5.  Lastly, exercise. You’d be amazed how even a little exercise can help minimize the occurrence of most common back pain. Lower back, abdominal, and oblique exercise help to stabilize and strengthen the core. For many that have a low to moderate activity level, exercise is best thing to help minimize back pain.

For those with chronic low back pain, see you doctor and ask about a good treatment plan. Ask your doctor if TENS therapy is right for you.

  • Four Tips for Coping with Sleep Apnea

Posted on January 3, 2014 by Core Products

Core Products International, experts in continuous positive airway pressure (CPAP) products, provide four top tips for those living with sleep apnea.

Recognized as a serious disorder, sleep apnea occurs when a person’s breathing is interrupted during sleep. A person with untreated sleep apnea repeatedly stops breathing while asleep, preventing the brain and body from receiving enough oxygen.

Core Products International provides superior tips to help people live more comfortably and possibly avoid the dangers of the sleep disorder:

    1.    Watch your weight: According to the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute, roughly half of the people diagnosed with sleep apnea are overweight.* Go to the doctors for regular checkups to ensure you are keeping a healthy weight. Don’t be afraid to discuss a weight loss program with your physician, especially if you carry hereditary risks for sleep apnea.

    2.    Quit Smoking: According to Mayo Clinic, smokers are three times more likely to have obstructive sleep apnea (OSA).** OSA is the more common form of apnea and is caused by a blockage in the airway.

    3.    Know your family history: If a family member has sleep apnea, relatives may be at an increased risk for the condition as well.**

    4.     Reduce Alcohol Intake: Similar to smoking, those who consume alcohol excessively can be at a greater risk for sleep apnea. The over indulgence of alcohol causes throat muscles to relax, putting any person at a greater risk for OSA.

Core Products also offers pillows designed specifically for people with sleep apnea who use a CPAP machine. The unique shape of the Mini CPAP Pillow does not interfere with the placement of the CPAP mask and is great for travel while the full size Core CPAP Pillow comes in 3 different heights to fit you best. These pillows helps CPAP users feel more comfortable using their equipment and helps to prevent mask leaks and soreness. Use Discount Code CPAP10 at checkout for 10% off a Core CPAP Pillow.

There is no known cure for sleep apnea, but it is highly treatable with CPAP. For more information on Core CPAP Pillow, please contact Customer Service at 800-365-3047 or info@coreproducts.com

  • Core Products International Donates 10% Of Web Sales to Breast Cancer Research

Posted on October 10, 2013 by Core Products

Core Products International’s mission is to make life more comfortable for those suffering from chronic pain. This month they will support the cause by donating 10% of all online sales made during October to the Breast Cancer Research Foundation. More than 75% of the company is women, one of whom is a breast cancer survivor.

“This issue is very near and dear to our hearts,” said Matt Nasca, E-Commerce Manager for Core Products. “Everyone here feels it’s very important to do our part for this very serious disease and contribute toward finding a cure.”

The Breast Cancer Research Foundation was chosen because 91 cents for every dollar they bring in goes directly towards scientific research. Their mission, as stated on their website, is to “achieve prevention and a cure for breast cancer in our lifetime by providing critical funding for innovative clinical and translational research at leading medical centers worldwide, and increasing public awareness about good breast health.”

In 2006, The Breast Cancer Research Foundation put together the collection of more than 1,300 human genes related to breast cancer, which is now available to scientists worldwide for studying breast cancer. According to the American Cancer Society, “breast cancer is the most common cancer among American women, except for skin cancers. About 1 in 8 (12%) women in the U.S. will develop invasive breast cancer during their lifetime.”

Core Products has installed a new banner on their website calling attention to their commitment this month. “Core for the Cure” will run through Oct. 31, 2013. For more information on Core Products International please visit: http://www.coreproducts.com.

  • Core Products Knee Supports Offer Relief for Student Athletes

Posted on September 26, 2013 by Core Products

With Sports Back in Session, Core Products Knee Supports Offer Relief for Student Athletes

School is now in full swing and with it, kids’ sports. As knee injuries are common among youth and teen athletes, Core Products reminds parents and health professionals of its knee supports that offer maximum relief for athletes.

Each year 3.5 million children under the age of 14 are treated for sports injuries. According to Mayo Clinic, young children have softer bones because they're still growing, so a hyperextended knee can result in a chip of bone being pulled away from the main bone when a ligament is stretched too far. In older children, forceful hyperextension may tear one of the knee ligaments, particularly the anterior cruciate ligament (ACL).

Core Products offers several knee supports in case of knee injuries including: a Knee Support Standard Neoprene, Performance Wrap Knee Brace, Wraparound Knee Support and Patella Strap. These high-quality knee supports and braces assist with everyday comfort and the healing process.

Anytime a child has a knee injury severe enough to cause swelling, pain or instability, they should be evaluated by a doctor immediately, according to Mayo Clinic. Even if an injury doesn't require surgery, physical therapy may be needed to help restore leg strength and stability.

Common knee injuries among young athletes include:
Osgood-Schlatter, an injury caused by repeated running and jumping and sports that require running and rapid direction changes. This is especially common in children ages 11-14.

Patellar Subluxation (Dislocated Kneecap), which happens when the kneecap is out of the groove may include symptoms of extreme pain and swelling, a sense of instability and stretched ligaments.

Patellar Tendonitis (Jumper’s Knee), or inflammation of the patellar ligament usually caused by overuse.
