Neck Pain

Neck Stiffness

Stiffness of the neck is often the result of a sprain or strain, or an injury such a fall or whiplash. But it has many causes - some quite serious - so it's important to seek a proper diagnosis. It can also be caused by arthritis, a degenerative condition of the cervical disks.

Rest, chiropractic or massage therapy, the prescription of a proper orthopedic pillow to support the neck properly, and hot and cold treatment are often recommended to both alleviate pain and assist in eliminating the underlying condition.

Protective measures include sleeping on the proper pillow, and using a shoulder bag or back pack which is engineered to alleviate unnecessary strain to the neck, using a lumbar support for proper positioning while driving or working at a desk.

Neck Injury

The most common causes of neck injuries are falls, sports injuries and whiplash injuries resulting from car accidents. Always seek medical attention when you sustain an injury to your neck.

Following a neck injury, immobilization is often required to protect from further injury, with the application of hot and/or cold therapy to alleviate pain. Sleeping on a pillow that properly supports your neck will provide added protection, as will the use of an ergonomically engineered shoulder bag or backpack once you're back in the swing of things.
