Commonly Called: Jumper’s Knee

Definition

Inflammation of the patellar ligament, usually due to overuse.

Most commonly affected

  • Most common in athletes in jumping sports
  • Inflammation of the Patellar Tendon (connects kneecap to shinbone)
  • Common in 10 to 16 year olds

Causes

  • Participation in jumping sports
  • Trauma to tendon

Common Symptoms

  • Pain below the kneecap
  • Pain with activity
  • Swelling
  • Bone spur below the kneecap
