AirPacks Backpacks Protect Children's Growing Spines

(DC Products) –Whether waiting in line for the bus, walking home from school, or negotiating crowded hallways between classes, children bent over and leaning forward from the staggering weight of their backpacks has become an all too familiar sight.

Filled with books, folders, planners and media players, today’s backpacks can easily weigh over 20 pounds. For a 65-pound child, this is over 30 percent of his body weight. The equivalent of 30 percent for a 150-pound adult would be like carrying around 45 pounds all day. That’s a lot of stress to put on anyone, especially a child with a growing spine and back.

Health care professionals recommend that students carry no more than 15% of their body weight on their shoulders.

For example, a child weighing:

-50 lbs. should carry no more than 7.5 lbs.
-80 lbs. should carry no more than 12 lbs.
-100 lbs. should carry no more than 15 lbs.
-150 lbs. should carry no more than 22.5 lbs.

Yet, a study by Simmons College shows that students are carrying up to 40 lbs.
Even worse, many students are reporting back and neck pain, headaches, fatigue, and numbness and tingling in the arms and legs from carrying these heavy loads.

The AirPacks System, developed by orthopedic professionals, has been university tested and clinically proven to reduce backpack stress by up to 80% and lighten the effective load of the backpack by up to 50%.

The key to the AirPacks Backpack is the inflatable lumbar cushion, which fits into the small of the back and redistributes the weight from the shoulders to the hips. This ergonomic design relieves stress on the upper back and shoulders and promotes a healthier, upright standing position.

AirPacks backpacks are proportionally sized for students of all ages to make sure the lumbar cushion is properly positioned. Other features, such as the wide foam-cushioned straps and adjustable buckles, ensure comfort and an ideal fit.

Help your patients make better decisions to protect their children’s growing spines and health. The AirPacks Display Kit, by Core Products, has been developed to help chiropractors promote and sell AirPacks backpacks. The Display Kit includes18 AirPacks backpacks in a variety of sizes and colors, a free display stand, header card, waiting room posters and patient brochures. Placed in the reception area of your clinic, this “touch and try” display uses a proven technique to sell AirPacks. Allowing patients to touch and try the backpacks is a natural draw.

Also available, is the Congress of Chiropractic State Association (COCSA) Backpack Safety Kit. The Backpack Safety Kit helps chiropractors create awareness of backpack injury and equate their clinic with the solution. Proceeds from the purchase of the kit go to COCSA to support and promote chiropractic.

The COCSA Backpack Safety Kit provides everything chiropractors need to set up and conduct a successful backpack safety program in their community.  The how-to manual makes it easy to give professional school or PTA presentations, and the video and power point help explain visually how ergonomic backpacks reduce back stress and lighten the effective load of the pack.
