Ibunex and Gluconex: Topical Alternatives to Oral Medicines

(Podiatry Management) –As a specialist in the medical field, what do you do when a treatment option helps one part of the body, but has the potential to harm another? The negative side effects from the long-term use of oral NSAIDs have become common knowledge, but less common is having a viable alternative—until now.

Core Products International Inc, a leader in the alternative healthcare industry for over 20 years, has expanded into the podiatry market with two exciting new topical application products, Ibunex and Gluconex.

Ibunex and Gluconex are dermal application creams that can be applied directly to the target area. Simply pump these creams onto the fingertips and massage gently into the skin. One measured pump of Ibunex contains 10mg of Ibuprofen, an anti-inflammatory, along with Glucosamine, Chondroitin, MSM and Bromelain, all known for their benefits in joint health maintenance.

Many patients with chronic conditions, such as arthritis, rely on oral medicines to get through daily activities. For these patients, the negative side effects of oral medicines are a true cause for concern. Applied locally, both Ibunex and Gluconex completely avoid the sensitive organs that make up the digestive system. Research studies have found that 5% topical Ibuprofen creams resulted in comparable efficacy and improved tolerability relative to 400mg of Ibuprofen [J Clin Pharm Ther 2002 Dec; 27(6):409-17].

Because of the local application, Ibunex and Gluconex are especially attractive for podiatry. Patients no longer have to wait for distant metabolic processes and system wide transportation in order for the medicine to reach their lower extremities.

“I’ve recommended the use of Ibunex to my patients during postoperative recovery and suggested they continue to maintain their joints with Gluconex,” says Dr. Lynnelle R. Gabriel, D.P.M., F.A.C.F.A.S.

While Ibunex has Ibuprofen to help with arthritic flare-ups and any acute injury, Gluconex contains higher amounts of Glucosamine and Chondroitin, in addition to the MSM and Bromelain, for long-term muscle and joint maintenance. Ibunex and Gluconex are safe to use together, and can also be used while taking an oral medicine.

Most topical creams are camphor or menthol-based counterirritants. These creams attempt to mask the pain with tingling and numbness. Ibunex and Gluconex are different because the ingredients are enclosed in a unique Liposome Dermal Delivery MatrixTM (LDDM).

Liposomes are fatty droplets made artificially in a laboratory by adding a water solution to a phospholipid gel. Liposomes are then used to encapsulate hydrophobic molecules, such as Ibuprofen or Glucosamine, in a lipid bilayer that can be absorbed by the skin.  Liposomes are ideal transdermal carriers because they consist primarily of lecithin and cholesterol, materials that occur naturally in the human body. Once absorbed into the tissue, the bilayers of the liposome dissipate, making the ingredients bioavailable to the joints and soft tissue.

Unlike oral delivery, where the majority of the dose is filtered out by the digestive system, liposome delivery systems focus concentrated ingredients directly onto the targeted area, avoiding the GI tract entirely.

Ibunex and Gluconex have a shelf life of at least two years and each 2 oz. bottle is labeled with its own expiration date.

In addition to Ibunex and Gluconex, Core Products makes a variety of ankle supports for minor injuries and hot and cold packs to address the various stages of care. Core Products’ expertise also extends into merchandising programs. For example, Ibunex and Gluconex are now available in a Starter Display Kit. The Display Kit comes with free marketing materials, such as brochures and posters to initiate patient interest and encourage consultation.

Until now, there weren’t a lot of choices for patients with conditions like arthritis to reduce their long-term use of oral medicines. Ibunex and Gluconex are opening up this conversation between podiatrists and their patients by providing another option.

Most of the well-known distributors in podiatry, such as Meyer and Stone, are carrying Ibunex and Gluconex. Check with your distributor to order. You can also visit us online at www.CoreProductsLaboratories.com or call 1-800-365-3047 for more information.
